D-Andre Curenton serves as the Percussion Director for The Unstoppable Mighty Marching Panthers, bringing a lifetime of performance, education, and leadership experience to the program.
Born and raised on the north side of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Curenton developed a passion for percussion at a young age and became involved in marching band during middle school—a passion that has remained a driving force throughout his life. He is a proud graduate of The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering while continuing to develop his musical talents.
His marching career includes performances with East High School and The Saints Drum & Bugle Corps. As an adult performer, he has continued to expand his musical experiences through ensembles including Otterbein University, the Arkansas Symphonic Orchestra, Arkansas Mass Band, Memphis All-Star Band, and the Ohio Mass Band. Today, he remains an active performer, playing drum set with numerous bands and churches throughout the Midwest.
Beyond performing, Mr. Curenton has dedicated his career to developing young musicians. He currently serves as a Science Teacher at Franklinton High School, where he founded the school's drumline and continues to mentor students both in and out of the classroom. Throughout his instructional career, he has led numerous percussion sections and ensembles to championship titles and award-winning performances across the country. His instructional experience includes Pine Bluff High School, East High School, Linden McKinley High School, and the Ohio Mass Band.
Mr. Curenton is a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc., serves as the Regional Director for Mu Phi Sigma National Percussion Fraternity, Inc., and is a Youth Advisor for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter.
By combining his backgrounds in science and music, Mr. Curenton is passionate about helping students discover opportunities beyond the classroom. He believes that music teaches discipline, leadership, teamwork, and perseverance while exposing students to careers and educational pathways they may have never imagined. His mission is to inspire the next generation of musicians to pursue excellence both on the field and in life.
